Background of the Study
According to the Family Planning Survey conducted by the National Statistics Office (2005), about 7% of teenage girls in the Philippines have already begun to give birth and this percentage includes girls who have already had one or more births or those who are currently experiencing pregnancy. The percentage of girls who begin to experience pregnancy increases with the age of the girl; only less than 3% of the girls who are aged 15 or 16 have begun to give birth compared to 28% of the girls who are already 18 to 19 years of age.
