Alfred Nobel

The years before Alfred Nobel was born would set the stage for his childhood and the rest of his life. His father, Immanuel Nobel, was an accomplished industrialist in Sweden. In 1832, through a series of bad investments and a streak of bad luck, including and a fire that resulted in the destruction of their home, Immanuel was forced to declare bankruptcy. As a result of this, the family moved twice before settling in a small apartment on the outskirts of Stockholm.
