Allan Pinkerton

Allan Pinkerton was born on August 25, 1819, in Glasgow, Scotland. He died July 1, 1884, in Chicago, Illinois. He was Scottish-born, a cooper by trade he was active in the Chartist movement and became a famous detective. In 1842 Mr. Pinkerton fled to the United States, settling in Chicago (Simkin, J., Online Article). By the next year he moved to nearby Dundee which is in Kane County. The way that he became involved with law enforcement was, one day while he was cutting wood on a deserted island he discovered and later captured a gang of counterfeiters.
