Apple Juice
The Time Magazine article “Arsenic in Apple Juice” by Meredith Melnick discusses the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) testing of popular brands of apple juice. Consumer Reports speculates that the arsenic levels in the juice are high enough to increase the risk of chronic illness like cancer, diabetes and heart disease over an extended period of time. The FDA tested 88 samples of 28 brands of apple juice and discovered that 10% of the samples exceeded the federal arsenic limit in water bottles; 10 parts per billion. Even though the government does not have a standard arsenic level in apple juice, the findings have prompted Consumer Reports to call for the FDA to set regulations...
