Discuss the following types of construction, giving basic principles, historical information, and examples:
Load Bearing – This is one of the simplest and oldest methods of constructing buildings. In this type of structure, there are horizontal and vertical elements that bear the weight of the building. Loads like roofs, floors, people, wind, and seismic activity, are transferred (either directly or indirectly) to the vertical load bearing elements (i.e. walls, frames, and columns) which, in turn transfer the load to the foundation and the ground.
