The field of environmental justice seeks to explore how different ethnic or social groups are disproportionately exposed to certain environmental hazards and their associated health risks (Pastor, et. al, 2002). One potential case in America is the increase of asthma cases for students living in heavily urbanized areas such as Los Angeles, where air toxins that stimulate asthma symptoms are released into the atmosphere in high concentrations.
