Background: George Orwell
George Orwell, or rather Eric Arthur Blair, was born on June 25th, 1903 in Motihari, Bengal, India to Ida Mabel nee Limouzin and Richard Walmesley Blair. He moved to England in the year 1908. From 1922-1927 he was in the Indian Civil Service. He went to Burma to join the Indian Imperial Police. He grew to love the Burmese and resent the oppression of imperialism and decided to become a writer instead. After he resigned he moved to Paris to try writing short stories. He wrote freelance for various periodicals, but nobody would publish them. He then became a plongeur. He moved back to England in 1929 after a bout of pneumonia.
