Body dysmorphic is an obsession with a real or imagined physical defect. The acronymic for body dysmorphic disorder is BDD. Individuals with BDD often perceive that their imperfections are noticeable to others when, in fact they may not be. These people feel disfigured, ugly and deformed in some way. Reassurance from other people regarding the real or imagined physical defect does nothing to help those suffering with this mental illness. People with body dysmorphic disorder can have difficulty feeling positive about themselves and can often only think negatively.
