The collapse of Yugoslavia cannot be attributed to just one thing. Rather, there are several things that worked together to create the atmosphere that eventually led to the collapse.
As I see it, the three largest contributors are the many ethnic groups of the region, nationalism, and the fact that the people of the region have never truly been in control of their own destinies, rather, they have usually been under the influences of outside forces.
