In this experiement we attempted to synthesize asprin by mixing its key

components which are acetylsalicylic acid. The chemical formula is C9H904.

Asprin is a common household medication that is used for minor releif of pain

and a blood thinner. It has a melting piont of 135 degrees Celsius.




First we mixed 1g of salicylic acid with 2.5ml acetyl acid anhydride and

two drops of phophoric acid. Then we put a flask of water on to a hot plate and

allowed the water to heat for a couple of minutes. Then we heated the mixuture.
