The Great Gatsby, a novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is about the American Dream and the downfall of those who attempted to reach its illusionary goals. The Great Gatsby reiterates what happened to the American Dream in the 1920s. This was a time period where man’s ideas of life were corrupted by the materialistic pursuit of wealth. James Gatz dreamed that, through wealth and power, one could acquire happiness. Little did he know that things worth having are not easily obtained.
