Cold War Ideology And Policies
Western democracies, including US, Britain, and France, did not have great foreign relations with the Russians even before World War II. In order to thwart German aggressors and Axis powers, the Western countries made a necessary alliance with Russia to fight the Germans. After the war was over, Russians began strengthening their military as a high priority. America, however, focused on building economies to prevent the extremism that started World War II. These differing ideologies are what constitute much of the basis of the Cold War and separated the once-temporary alliance into Communism vs. the West.
