Crude Oil

Crude oil is unrefined oil extracted from the lithosphere. Crude oil is a heterogeneous mixture consisting of different hydrocarbons. Some of the main hydrocarbons in crude oil include napthenes or cycloalkanes, paraffins, alkenes, aromatics and alkynes.
Fractional distillation is the most common method of separating the components of crude oil. This process is effective because the miscible components differ in boiling points.
