(Reading 1, to page 30)
I’ve noticed that Joaquin often refers to people as animals or describes their specific nature likened to animals. (Example, page 5, line 2; “…and ran to the managing editor, an animal with the voice of an overseer.”) The main irony of this reference to animals so far is that animals disgust him. I’m not sure if this connection is to be taken seriously or lightly, as some sort of negative-repulsive humor owned by either the author or Joaquin, or both.) So far, my opinion leans toward the latter.
