Engaged Buddhism
Engaged Buddhism is a term which is believed to be coined by Thich Nhat Hanh and refers to ‘active engagement by Buddhists in society and its problems’ (Kraft 1988, p. xii). The ‘engaged Buddhist’ movement is made up of people from very diverse backgrounds and is based on the principle of applying ancient Buddhist teachings to the social, political and economic problems of society.
