Ethnic Diversity
Ethnic diversity in modern times plays a major part in constructing identity. The time in human life where this process of constructing an identity is most crucial, often occurs at puberty and enhances during the adolescent years. The most logical reason is puberty signals a beginning in needing to form a more mature self image. It used to be that adolescents in the United States were thought as a fairly close nit group being mostly White, middleclass, suburban and from a Western European backgrounds.
