Fluids And The Human Body
Water is an essential component of the human body. The body can be affected by not getting enough water, or even getting too much water. Water is the body's principal chemical component, comprising on average, 60% of the body’s weight (mayoclinic, 2008). Each system in the body uses water. For example, water flushes out toxins in the organs, carries nutrients through the body, lubricates the joints, and provides a moist environment for the ear, nose and throat tissues (mayoclinic, 2008). Without water, constipation, sore joints and improper body temperature can occur. Perhaps the most serious problem that can occur when the body does not get enough water is called dehydration.
