Fossil fuels have been the predominant form of energy since the beginning of the 20th century but not without cost to the developed and developing countries. Local and global economies are affected, as well foreign relations, culture, and technology. Wars have been waged over fossil fuels.
The use of fossil fuels began innocently enough, coal, oil and gas to heat homes and power factories, steam locomotives for travel and transporting goods, automobiles became an everyday mode of transport.
