Foster Care is Failing Children
The State of New Jersey has agreed to give $12.5 million to four boys starved by their foster parents. The boys’ ages ranged from ten to nineteen years old. They all weighed less than 45 pounds. (“New Jersey,” 2005, p. 49) The foster care system is failing the children whom it is supposed to protect due to caseworker overload, inadequate mental health care, and lack of preparation for children aging out of the system.
