A Letter Home: A French War Story
Dear Mother,
It is I, Francis, writing to you from the trenches in on the outskirts of Paris. I hope all too well that you did good finding a way out of this land. It is so hard for me, knowing the place where I’m from doesn’t exist anymore. I had just started my trench duty although I have been living in reserve trenches for the last couple months. The sleep is awful, hearing the rats scurrying about when the first sign of dark appears. I have shaved my head, although don’t tell my beloved wife that, she would kill me faster than the Germans would. The darn lice are keeping everyone itching throughout...
