Chapter 1

In chapter one of The Great Gatsby we are introduced to the narrator, Nick Carraway, a man from Minnesota. He starts of the book commenting on something his father taught him at a young age. His father told him “Whenever you feel like criticizing any one, just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had.” His father was trying to tell him to not judge other people because if he does then he will misunderstand them. Nick briefly mentions Gatsby, who represents everything that Nick disagrees with, but does not judge him.
