Mexican Americans
There are more than 15 million Mexican Americans living in the United States today. They may live in the bustling barrios (Mexican neighborhoods) of Los Angeles, in remote villages of New Mexico or in the wealthy suburbs of cities. The roots of Mexican Americans date back to a time when the United States did not exist and to native cultures thousands of years old. When the Spaniards arrived, Mexico was a land of centuries-old and, in some instances, complex societies, including the Aztec, Toltec, and Zapotec.
