HIV/AIDS: An Overview
Since 1981 there have been 1.7 million people in the United States estimated to have been infected with HIV, this includes about 600,000 who have die and more thatn1.1 million estimated to be living with the disease today. Every 9½ minutes someone in the U.S. is infected with the HIV virus (Aids.gov, 2009). An estimated 37.2 million adults and 2.3 million children worldwide were living with HIV/AIDS at the end of 2006. It was estimated that in 2006, 4.3 million people were infected with HIV and 2.9 million people died even with the development of the antiretroviral therapy (Harris & Bolus, 2008).
