In Our Time
In reading Earnest Hemingway’s “In Our Time,” I found the portrayal of marriage quite unique. He shows us different types of marriages in his work, and each of the situations are different from one another. The portrayal of marriage in the short stories such as, “Cat in the Rain,” “Mr. and Mrs. Elliot,” and “The Doctor and the Doctor’s Wife,” shows the reader how there are different types of marriages, but they are related in the fact that none of these relationships are healthy and strong. Each of these married couples is having conflicts within their relationship, but even at the end of each story, nothing is resolved.
