In August of 2002, India signed and ratified the Kyoto Protocol. Similar to Brazil and China, the protocol does not obligate India to do anything but monitor and report emissions. Since India is exempted from the framework of the treaty, the expected gain from signing is in terms of transfer of technology and related foreign investments.
