The company going to be discussed is Suid-Afrikaanse Steenkoolen Olie (South-African Coal and Oil), which is a coal-to-liquid energy firm in South Africa. The company and power plants were built in 1933, during the World War II, by the Nazi Germany for her military uses. Initially, the plants produced 125,000 bbl a day, by converting mountains of coal in South Africa into oil. Until 2008, the company has a market cap of $32 billion, owning 33,000 labours, satisfied 38% of South Africa’s fuel needs and account for 4.4% of South Africa’s GDP (figures from the article).
