Islamic Practice Of The Hajj
Hajj is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, where a Muslim makes a pilgrimage to Mecca. A Muslim must make a pilgrimage at least once in their lifetime to the birthplace of the Prophet. This festival takes place during the 12th month of the lunar calendar and lasts for six days. Hajj involves a series of rites that take place annually over several days at the Sacred Mosque at Mecca and the nearby area of Mina, Muzdalifa and Arafat. Shorter pilgrimages to Mecca, known as ‘umrah’ forms part of the Hajj, but may be performed by itself at any time of the year.
