Active and reflective listening techniques are an integral part of the communication process, however, if the listener only engages one of the techniques or methods, embraced by Eunson (2006) during the listening interaction and fails to utilise a variety of these methods, only a partial solution to an effective participation/listening strategy is employed. By investigating the different methods available to initiate and participate in active and reflective communication, it is possible to find a complete systematic approach to facilitating both engaging and effective listening skills, beyond passive comprehension alone.
