Punishment Research Paper
The issue of whether punishment deters crime is a very controversial one. The only way to deter crime and have a some kind of order in society is to have laws that punish those that break the laws, but some people that are punished for one crime actually becomes more violent and repeats his or her crime leaving society to feel that the punishment has no effect on their defiant behavior. Today there are four justifications for punishment currently used in society today; Retribution, Deterrence, Rehabilitation, and Social Protection.
