Now that I have a better understanding of intellectual traits as defined in chapter one, I
would like to improve in all areas and I believe there is room for improvement. Intellectual
humility, intellectual empathy and fair-mindedness are some areas that I sometimes lack in, for
example as a senior noncommissioned officer with 19 years in the United States Army I
sometimes tend to think that I know all the answers to why we are fighting the war in Iraq. Just
because I’ve deployed to Iraq for 15 months doesn’t necessarily mean that I know the answer to
