The Economy Of Philadelphia
Some say the Philadelphia is on a downward spiral while others say it is getting better. The city’s economy is based on manufacturing, food, financial services and refining. Some of the biggest companies are Comcast, Aramark, Sunoco, Pep Boys and GlaxoSmithKline. You would think that these billion dollar companies would have job opportunities for people with all levels of education, but the unemployment level in the city is 4.1 percent. This is below the national unemployment rate of 5.5 percent and lower than the 5.38 percent in 2002 (US Census Bureau). Based on this, people say the economy is in a better state.
