Passage 10
1. Tom, enraged at the potential loss of his wife and his mistress, questions Gatsby when they arrive at the “parlor of a suite in the Plaza Hotel” (132). The location of the confrontation is symbolic because there is a wedding occurring below them. The wedding on the bottom floor and the flash in the upper floor symbolize the dichotomy and the irony between the two situations. It is ironic that one relationship is ending when another one is starting. The wedding is a ceremony where two people make a relationship, but the conflict that Tom and Gatsby are having can possibly lead to the end to the relationship between Daisy...
