Even though gaining the competitive edge is attractive, performance-enhancing drugs (PED's) should never be allowed in sports because PED's have serious long term side effects that far outweigh the short term benefits. While PED’s usage is wide spread among age groups it is becoming increasingly popular with our youth. In an informal survey conducted in my step-son’s 11th grade Advanced PE class, the survey asked what reasons they would have to use or have used steroids. The top four answers were:
