Holden is a character faced with the classic issue of a teen crossing the barrier into adulthood. Capturing the time period, Salinger depicts a post-war America setting in which society is also going through change itself. Along with being angry with the war and having difficulties understanding society, Holden must learn the standards of the world as well as how to stay focused in this changing world.
